Dear Friends of Bluegrass:
It is with great sadness, regret and humility that I write this message to those of you who, in good faith, subscribed to the Jerusalem Ridge Magazine, and have been looking forward to, and have patiently waited for news about it's publication. Unfortunately, I must definitively inform all of you that JRM will not be published. The concept for JRM grew out of my 7+ years involvement with Campbell Mercer, and his tireless efforts on behalf of the fledgling 'Monroe Brothers Bluegrass Foundation' and the Jerusalem Ridge Celebration. It was my vision that a publication that was dedicated solely to the traditional bluegrass music movement and it's devotion to preserving the legacy of Bill Monroe and the music he gave us was not only necessary, but would finally give a voice to those who have worked so hard to keep Bill's dreams. vision and legacy alive and growing for generations to come. I did then, and still do, believe in and support all that Campbell and his loyal friends and followers have accomplished to date, in spite of the many obstacles that have challenged their resolve. It was my firm belief that after many discussions with Campbell about my plans for the magazine, and reviewing the numbers of viewers of 'The Cumberland Highlander's Show' and the tremendous surge in attendance in the past 2-3 years at the Jerusalem Ridge Celebration, that there would be more than sufficient subscriber numbers and support base to start and sustain such a project. But after many months of planning and exhaustive promotion, I am sad to report that the support that I had so hoped for, expected, and needed from the bluegrass community simply did not materialize, and in fact was but a small fraction of the response that was necessary to effectively continue. In addition, the original printer that was contracted with for the production of the magazine was forced out of business by the two major hurricanes that struck the Gulf Region of Texas back in late August and early September of 2008, and all efforts to recover advances paid to them have proven fruitless. Efforts to locate and secure financing have been exhausted, due to the obvious severe economic climate. That, along with the development of many personal and professional obstacles over the past months have created a 'perfect storm' of circumstances that have finally led me to this conclusion. Without a source of operating capital, or the response and support of sufficient subscribers to attract potential advertising revenues forces me to make this decision. While I had their full support and confidence,, please understand that this was in no way a reflection on Campbell Mercer, the Monroe Foundation or the Jerusalem Ridge Celebration, nor are they responsible in any way for the situation as it has come to be. With that said, we will issue a full refund on all subscriptions received to date, although it may take up to 60 days or more to effectively do so.
